AN INVERNESS haulage company has bolstered its fleet and workforce by more than a third after acquiring two rival companies.

Seafield Park Transport has taken over Highland haulage contractor R&F Campbell.

And simultaneously it has taken the reins at Mearns haulage business John H. Roberts.

The double "assets and goodwill" deal cut for "an undisclosed fee" means that the Inverness company’s fleet will now exceed 50 lorries on the road.

Its employee base – primarily drivers and administrative staff – will also go beyond the half century mark for the first time.

Seafield Park Transport managing director Steven Barclay said: “We have been really busy, and this will give us much more scope.

“Both companies are a good fit, and it has been a seamless changeover.”

The Inverness company, which carry the "Barclay" name, has been established for almost 20 years and provides a comprehensive range of specialist haulage services throughout the UK.

The 24:7 company’s variety of services includes waste transfer, potable water, a daily trunk service, round timber haulage, earthworks and plant shifting.

It deals with companies of all sizes from SMEs to Scottish Water and Euroforest.

And the business is a real family affair with Mr Barclay’s two daughters both playing their part – Lucy is the company’s general manager, while Libby is a business management apprentice.
