TWO Highland pals were in tandem as they crossed the finish line of a month-long challenge to each clock up 555 miles to help refugees.

Friends Alice Masheter (26), of Aigas near Beauly, and Franci Hutchison (27), of Lochinver, have raised more than £1400 for the refugee support department of the British Red Cross.

Although they mainly clocked up the miles individually through cycling, running, walking, wild swimming and even paddle boarding, they completed the final miles together on a tandem.

The pair, who ultimately notched up 1163.12 miles, are heavily involved in campaigning for Highlands Must Act, a branch of Europe Must Act.

They particularly wanted to highlighlight the plight of refugees on the Greek Aegean Islands.

Ms Hutchison thanked everyone who helped raised money and awareness for the Red Cross and Highlands Must Act.

"Alice and I are delighted that we have raised such an amazing amount for Red Cross Refugee Support," she said.

"This was the aim of our challenge and in tandem, we wanted to raise awareness of the situation facing refugees on the Aegean Islands in particular."
