A drug addict who struggled to comply with a treatment and testing order after a promising start asked to be jailed.

Running alongside the court order were two deferred sentences on 34-year-old Iain MacMillan of Balloan Road, Inverness.

He was arrested after entering two cars on May 2 and 3, 2019 and previously admitted intending to steal from them.

Solicitor Marc Dickson told Inverness Sheriff Court: "My instructions are to ask for a custodial sentence rather than any other court order because he says he will have difficulty complying. He also says he doesn’t want any time to pay a fine."

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank noted MacMillan had complied with the testing order for several months.

He fined him £250 but as no time to pay was requested MacMillan was jailed for the alternative of 14 days.
