ROADWORKS to double a single track road in Wester Ross are going ahead on time according to Highland Council.

Roadworks on the A832 between Achnasheen and Gairloch at Slattadale, which began in February 2022, require the breaking out and removal of a rock face to widen the existing single-track road to provide a new two-lane road.

The scheme, funded from Highland Council capital works programme, is designed and supervised by Highland Council and being carried out by Wills Bros.

To date the works have been carried out adjacent to the existing road using traffic signals to manage the traffic.

The works are progressing within the agreed timescales with 75 per cent of the rock removal now completed but to remove the remaining section blasting of the rock face will be required.

According to the council, to complete this safely the road will be closed to traffic for approximately 30 minutes towards the end of May. Emergency services have been notified.

A council spokesperson said: "A further communication will be issued once the actual day and time is known. It is anticipated that the new road will be complete towards the end of August 2022.

"We would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding."
