Theo Stratton has been selected by the Highland Conservatives to stand for the Black Isle in the Highland Council elections in May.

Mr Stratton lives locally with his wife. He has previously served as a councillor in the south and says he understands how vital it is to listen to local concerns and how to enact real change by working collaboratively.

Theo Stratton said “I want to use my experience to give a much-needed voice to the Black Isle by supporting residents and businesses with their concerns.”

“I’m excited to have the chance to solve the current key issues affecting the community.

“In particular the A9 Munlochy junction desperately needs a safe long term alternative that is good for local people.”

“Highland Council also needs to support greener ways to heat our homes, particularly now with rising energy costs and a disproportionate reliance on private oil and gas supplies on the Black Isle."

He added: “It's clear from local residents that they are upset with the lack of previous councillor engagement and representation on community issues.I hope I can have the opportunity to use my experience to support and represent the Black Isle and protect what makes it special.”

Highlands and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston said:“I wish Theo every possible success. I know he’ll make a fantastic councillor for the Black Isle. It’s clear that Highland Council needs some fresh thinking and that Theo will get things done.

“He has a real understanding of the issues facing his communities in the Black Isle, and I’m looking forward to getting out and about with him again on the campaign trail."
