Highland cannabis dealer who supplied drug to friends faces sentence after court appearance

A Kirkhill man who shared a cannabis joint with friends has admitted being concerned in the supply of the drug.
But defence solicitor advocate Shahid Latif told Inverness Sheriff Court the case was "low level", with the incident being the full extent of 42-year-old William Mackenzie’s drug dealing.
Mr Latif also said the prosecution’s value of the drugs found in Mackenzie’s home at St Mary’s Road on November 22 last year was "overstated" and was not £5000 but £3375.
"I do not concede that the threshold for a custodial sentence has been met," he said.
"There was no financial gain and no relevant recent previous convictions."
Sheriff Sara Matheson ordered Mackenzie to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and placed him under 18 months of social work supervision.
Previously, the court heard officers who searched Mackenzie’s property were told by him: "Bet it’s not the result you hoped for boys – half a result."
Mackenzie pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of the class B drug and also admitted previous convictions for similar offences, which Mr Latif said were "of some age".
Fiscal depute Robert Weir said police searched the property after a tip-off and found scales with cannabis on them, plus two carrier bags containing the drug in the kitchen.
Mackenzie told police the drugs were for personal use and low level supply within his social circle.
