A Highland cafe has closed its doors as cases of coronavirus continue to rise.

Cafe de Paulo in the Victorian Market hopes to reopen soon but says the health of customers and staff comes first.

When it reopened in July following the previous lockdown, owner Juan Paulo said it was exciting to be getting back to business.

But in a post on social media, he has announced the decision to close again.

"Given the current situation in the Highlands, we have taken the difficult decision to close our doors until it is safer to operate," he said.

"For a small business like us, it’s a tough period and 2020 has hit us hard but the health of our customers, team and community must always come first.

"We look forward to being able to reopen soon hopefully and are excited for the future.

"In the meantime please do stay safe, look after each other and be kind ."
