A CHILDREN’S author who teamed up with her illustrator husband to create a new book didn’t have far to go to get instant feedback.

Jasmine Miller, who lives in Conon, is the author of Five Little Doggies, a fun and engaging book for young children, introducing colours, numbers and vehicles as we accompany our canine pals on a journey to the park.

Jasmine, who aims to inspire a love of reading in the very young, has donated some of the books to the school library at Ben Wyvis Primary and took the opportunity to lead a joyful reading session with some of the kids there.

And at the end of this month, she will officially launch the book at Waterstones in Inverness at an event. The Saturday, May 31 launch is scheduled for 11am and will include colour in sheets and fun activities for young children.

Five Little Doggies is a real family affair too as she teamed up with artist husband Gary, who had his own first exhibition recently at The Alchemist in Dingwall. His lively illustrations sit perfectly with her story. And with a young son, Archie, they have an excellent sounding board for what works and what doesn’t!

As well as a thumbs up locally, her book has already attracted great feedback from as far afield as Michigan, Georgia and North Carolina in the States, where it has also been published.

The book is published by Pegasus imprint Nightingale Books.

One reader said: “This is the cutest book for any little ones! So much fun and great learning lessons as well! Can’t wait for the next one!”

Of her own reading habits, she said: “I usually try and spend a little time reading every evening. That was definitely a bit of a challenge when my own boy was a baby but I’m trying to get back into that and make it a habit at the end of the day.”

Asked what book she would always recommend, she said anything by P.G. Wodehouse: “They’re so much fun, really relaxing and a great classic to get into.”

Like many, she prefers a physical book over an eBook: “I love looking at the cover and the illustrations and especially like buying from a second-hand bookshop or charity shop.”
