A TAIN family want to raise money to buy a specialist bed for their three-and-a-half year-old daughter, to help her sleep safe at night time.

Mum and dad, Alicia and Paul Morgan have set up a gofundme page to raise around £7000 for a 'care base snug', for daughter Hollie.

The bed, that the family have had on loan during the lockdown from New Life Charity, is not available on the NHS.

Having the bed has made a huge difference to Hollie – and the family want to raise cash to buy her own one before November.

Hollie lives with an unknown rare genetic condition, and was diagnosed as having ventriculomegaly, a swelling on the ventricles of the brain, while still in the womb.

Mrs Morgan said: "We are raising funds for Hollie's care base snug which will be around £7000 we have until roughly November time to do so.

"Hollie has a loan of a snug base at the moment, but will sadly have to be returned. The snug has made such a massive difference to her life.

"Hollie harms herself by banging her head because she is frustrated that she can not communicate with us. We have tried everything - and this bed keeps her safe."

She continued: "Life was hard at first we had this tiny we baby covered in tubes and I didn't know how I was ever going to be able to do it but a friend from Tain in a similar situation said to me 'one day soon this will feel normal' and she was right. Now its just life its our new normal and we adapted well in no time."

Explaining that Hollie has had a difficult start to life, her mum continued: "Hollie has Agenesis of corpus callosum (ACC) and colpocephaly and a bleed to the brain. In all Hollie has more than 20 conditions. She is non-verbal and understands little to no verbal communication. She is also registered blind.

"Everyone who meets Hollie loves her. She attends Anchorville Nursery in Tain and she has a one-on-one worker who has made a huge difference to her."

Ms Morgan explains the need for the snug, she said: "Hollie is gastro-fed over night which is a challenge as she only sleeps up to three hours a night. Paul and I take it in turns at been awake with her. We do four hours each.

"Hollie has developed many other issues during her life and has spent a great deal of time in hospital. This bed helps her to feel safe."

"In her short life Hollie has achieved so much, and she has gone beyond many of the things we were told she would never do. We have been told if Hollie developmentally progresses any more, it will not be by much more than the level she is at now and she will always need lifelong 24-hour care. But she is learning every day."
