A 48-HOUR yellow weather warning for heavy and persistent rain has been issued for parts of Ross-shire.

The warning, which will come into force at 6pm on Sunday, was issued by the Met Office, amid forecasts for up to 250mm of rain on the highest ground.

The alert area extends as far north as Loch Broom, as far east as Loch Ness and Monadhliath Mountains, and extends as far south as the Cowal peninsula in Argyll.

The warning also covers all of Lochaber and much of Skye.

A Met Office spokesman said: “Following a period of heavy rainfall on Saturday night, further outbreaks of persistent and at times heavy rain will affect western Scotland from Sunday evening until Tuesday evening.

“During this period 80-100 mm of rainfall is expected to fall quite widely, with the potential for 150-250mm over the highest ground.”

Localised flooding, and disruption to bus, train and road transport is possible.
