MORE than £40,000 worth of new grants are helping people from Ullapool to Garve realise their studying ambitions.

The EDF Corriemoillie Education and Training Fund awarded dozens of grants to individuals and groups as part of its latest round of funding in August.

The grants, which are paid for through EDF's Corriemoillie wind farm, include almost £35,000 in awards to individuals to help them with everything from driving lessons and LGV training courses, to travel, accommodation and subsistence costs relating to study at further and higher education level.

Ross-shire groups which also benefited included Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club, which received £1464 to fund manual handling and first aid training for four members of its staff.

Create Youth Theatre, based in the Lochbroom area, received £2050 to fund ten mentoring sessions in film-making and sound recording. These aim to "develop practical workshop content to engage young people in these skills". The cash will also be used pay for computer equipment and software required for the sessions, as well as future workshops.

And Ullapool High School received £2000 to contribute towards the Enviro Link Project. It will provide 36 of the school's S3 pupils with work experience in the conservation sector, link them with employers, and seeks to inspire career choices in nature conservation.
