PUPILS at an Easter Ross school who faced the challenges of running their own business have been given an award for their positive attitude in overcoming obstacles along the way.

Invergordon Academy’s InverG Xmas Treats won the Achievement through Adversity award along with £50 for their Year in 8 Photos record of their experience developing Christmas gift stockings. Team member Rhianna Newlands also won £75 as runner-up in the Entrepreneurship category.

It was the 11-strong team's first experience of running a business. They raised money selling the gift stockings to the public at a fair on Inverness High Street in early December last year. The remaining product was raffled at the school Christmas concert. The profits the group raised is planned to be spent on activities with residents at Castle Gardens Care Home, Invergordon.

The group also gave a presentation to a large audience of business and Highland Council managers along with other school teams. Fortrose Academy company team Venture won the Company of the Year Award for their board spinner game.

Linda Thomas, chairman of YES Highland and Moray said: "Once again our judges were overwhelmed by the tenacity, professionalism and creativity on display."
