The Gathering festival in Inverness is being hailed as a major success by one of the organisers as the sun shone down on what is perhaps the best line-ups the event has yet seen.

Hundreds of people could be seen queuing up to access the event, one of the highlights of the Highlands’ live music calendar.

Taking part were Skerryvore, Julie Foulis, Croft No. 5, Torridon, Valtos and Train West.

Speaking to Highland News and Media’s Shannon Marvell, organiser Dougie Brown said it has been “amazing” this year at the Bught Park but he looks forward to returning to the festival’s natural home of the Northern Meeting Park.

“It's amazing,” he said. “We have got exceptionally lucky with the weather, everyone is in great form, lots of families and lovely food being eaten and it is wonderful.

“We are here in Bught Park because the Northern Meeting Park is out of use this year so we will be back at what is kind of our home next year.

“The Gathering was kind of born out of that site and that location, it is nice to be here and it is working out really well but we are still really looking forward to getting back to our proper home next year.”

Explaining that the event is more than just about the music despite this year’s being “the best line-up that we have had yet,” Mr Brown said: “The Gathering is not just about the music but a celebration of all that is great about Scotland and the Highlands.

“So that includes the food and drink that we have on offer, there is no cheap mass-produced anything. We have got great craft, local Highland food producers, our beer and whiskies and gins is all Highland-based and I think that along with the culture and music is what makes this event unique and special.”
