Breaking news.

A suspected gas leak has sparked the emergency closure of a main road in Dingwall.

Mil Street, which forms parts of the A834 that leads from Dingwall to Strathpeffer, is closed from its junction at Bridgend Avenue to its junction at Millcraig Road.

Confirming the "emergency road closure" shortly after midday on Tuesday, a Highland Council spokesperson said: "Mill Street in Dingwall has been closed due to gas leak investigation works being carried out by [gas network operator] SGN affecting the A834 Mill Street from Bridgend Avenue to the junction at Millcraig Road.

"A diversion route [is] in place.

It is understood that trains on the Kyle line, which crosses Mill Street at a level crossing, are running as normal and are unaffected. However, ScotRail advised passengers to keep checking its website and app for updates on any planned train journeys as a precaution.
