A busy Dingwall street which was subject to an “emergency road closure” following a suspected gas leak, may remain shut until the weekend.

Mill Street, which is part of the A834 Dingwall-Strathpeffer road, has been closed between Bridgend Avenue and Millcraig Road since Tuesday morning after a leak left several homes without gas.

Motorists are being diverted. Rail services which use a level crossing on the street remain unaffected.

Gas engineers with the company SGN, which manages Scotland’s gas network, are busy working on the scene to fix the leak and low gas pressure.

But they have warned the public that disruption could continue into the weekend.

In a statement to the Ross-shire Journal, a spokesperson for SGN said: “We're currently investigating the cause of low pressure in our gas network in Mill Street, Dingwall which has left some properties without gas.

“For everyone's safety around our work area, we've temporarily closed the road. A signed diversion route is in place for motorists.

“All being well, we hope to reopen the road by the weekend.”
