COMMUNITY-spirited Dingwall residents have been hailed by the organisers of the annual gala festivities after it reached its climax with a real party atmosphere in town.

An action-packed week of fun for all ages was well attended, and the conclusion on Saturday – which featured the classic fancy dress float parade and evening festivities – had the town buzzing.

The winner for best float this year went to the local Scottish Women’s Institute with their Flintstones design, with Keep Fit in second and the Royal British Legion in third with its take on Mrs Brown’s Boys.

“The gala went very well. We got the weather at last and had a splendid finish,” said organiser Andrew Macivor. “We’ve a really good community in town and the support was really good.”

He added that, apart from having to move the children’s fun day inside to the Legion, the gala had been lucky in avoiding the impact of rain, praising Highland Council’s rapid clean-up response following flash flooding in the town.
