100 fresh coronavirus cases detected across NHS Highland area; rise came as Scotland registered 2649 new Covid-19 infections over the same 24 hour window

ONE-hundred new Covid-19 cases were detected across the NHS Highland area in the past day.

The region’s cumulative number of cases climbed to 2805 when the latest daily figures were published at 2pm.

There were 2649 new positive tests for Covid-19 across the whole of Scotland in the past 24 hours. This equated to 11.3 per cent of all the tests carried out yesterday.

Some 1467 infected people are now receiving treatment in the country’s hospitals – a rise of 83 from this time yesterday.

Of those, 100 were in intensive care – up five from Wednesday's update.

And sadly a further 78 people who previously tested positive have since died.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland there were no new cases in NHS Orkney.

But NHS Eileanan Siar registered one new positive test and NHS Shetland added five cases.

NHS Grampian recorded 302 new infections, for an overall total of 9479.

And NHS Tayside detected a further 209 cases – taking its cumulative tally to 9570.

Scotland has now detected 143,715 confirmed cases of Covid-19 since the start of the pandemic.
