Details and impact of 20-week A9 Cromarty Bridge roadworks revealed
DETAILS of a planned 20-week programme of works on a key A9 bridge link in Ross-shire have been revealed.
BEAR Scotland, acting on behalf of Transport Scotland, is planning to carry out bridge refurbishment works on the A9 Cromarty Bridge.
The works will be carried out at Piers 8, 9 and 10 and will involve replacement of bearings and expansion joints; concrete repairs; installation of a corrosion prevention system; replacement of the bridge deck waterproofing; kerb replacement; drainage improvements and resurfacing of the road.
These works are being carried out to repair defects in the bridge deck and piers and are essential to maintaining the bridge to the required standard, BEAR says.
The works have been provisionally programmed to start on Monday, July 21 for a duration of approximately 20 weeks.
To ensure the safety of road users and the workforce and to minimise the impact on road users, traffic lights will be in operation overnight between the hours of 7pm and 6am on weekdays and 24 hours at weekends.
The section of the bridge affected by the refurbishment works will be reduced to single lane convoy/shuttle working in each direction through the area.
Outwith the periods when traffic signals are in operation, there will be a 30mph speed restriction in place through the works area.
There will be no daytime traffic signals in operation during the dates of the Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival, the Black Isle Show and the Moy Country Fair.
Queuing traffic will be monitored on site and temporary traffic lights manually controlled at peak periods to minimise delays.
Recovery vehicles will be on site whilst temporary traffic lights are in operation to attend to broken down vehicles or any incidents that may occur.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times and the footpath across Cromarty Bridge will remain open throughout the works.
