Ross & Cromarty community councils could come back to life - but time is running out for would-be councillors to put their names forward
Mothballed community councils in several Ross & Cromarty communities could be brought back to life - but time is running out for candidates to step forward.
Highland Council has urged people to put their names forward as potential community councillors for several local bodies that are currently in abeyance.
Of these, four sit within Ross & Cromarty - Conon Bridge, Kilmuir & Logie Easter, Lochalsh, and Resolis - with a number of others elsewhere in the Highlands.
If enough hopefuls come forward, the councils will be able to reform, but if too few are nominated they will remain in abeyance.
Anyone interested in wishing to stand as a candidate for one of these community council’s has until midday on Monday, February 10 to complete and submit the online nomination which is available on the council’s website at www.highland.gov.uk/ccelections.
For any questions or candidates experiencing issues with accessibility or the nomination process itself, contact the Election Office by email at ccelection@highland.gov.uk or call 01349 886657.
The statements of persons nominated for each community council will be published on the council’s website by Tuesday, February 11. A postal ballot will be held in instances where the number of nominations exceeds the maximum membership.
The deadline for anyone who wishes to withdraw their candidacy has until midday on Monday, February 17, and statements will thereafter be updated accordingly on the council’s website and a press release will be issued.
