Folk musician Mairi Campbell to perform Auld Lang Syne show at Ullapool
Scottish folk singer and musician Mairi Campbell brings her Auld Lang Syne show to the Macphail Centre in Ullapool at the end of this month.
The five star rated show brings Scotland’s most famous song to life, combining storytelling, animation and movement with music composed by Mairi and musician and producer David Gray.
Edinburgh-born Mairi plays the viola, fiddle and piano, and her work is rooted in, and draws from, her personal stories and cultural concerns.
She has won six national music awards including the Inspiration Award in 2018. In 2019 she was inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. Her first two solo shows Pulse (2016) and Auld Lang Syne (2018), were critically acclaimed and toured widely.
Auld Lang Syne is a story about the song and its history and Mairi’s relationship with it. In the show she negotiates the politics of childhood friendships, the challenges of romantic relationships and the highs and lows of success and failure.
Auld Lang Syne will be performed at the MacPhail Centre on Thursday, January 30. Doors open at 7.10pm for the 7.30pm performance. The show runs for 60 minutes without an interval. Tickets, priced from £8-£15 can be bought here.
