Flats plan for former Alness photography studio
A former photographer’s studio in Alness could be turned into two brand new flats under plans lodged with the council.
A planning application for the property in the town’s Novar Road has been lodged by Mr Balvinder Singh.
A design statement by WA MacDonald (Building Design) Ltd submitted as part of the application details how the property sits next to a barber’s shop with the applicant’s mother already owning a flat above the property he hopes to convert.

“Prior to the applicant purchasing the property it remained empty for around seven years,” the design statement details.
“And prior to this it was used as a carpet shop. Before this it remained empty for a few further years and the earliest known use was a grocer’s shop.”
A large concrete garage to the side and rear of the property would be rendered as part of the plans with a timber structure at the gable end to be removed and a patio/ garden area to be created in its place.
The photographer’s business has now moved to Alness High Street and the statement continued: “We propose to convert the ground floor of the property into two residential units.
“These are substantial apartments, each around 90 square meters with one and two bedrooms respectively.
“The property is to be brought up to the current insulation standard, with all amenities.
“They will be disabled-friendly with level access, wider doors and additional space in the shower/ toliet areas and elsewhere.”
It also states that parking and turning is to be created for eight cars “two of which are in the exisiting garage”.
