POSTAL deliveries in IV4 and IV6 areas around Beauly and Kiltarlity are likely to be delayed today – after a fire close to the local Royal Mail delivery office.

A blaze broke out at a launderette in Beauly’s Station Road shortly before 5am on Friday, sparking the call-out of four fire engines.

The Royal Mail said that the police safety cordon in place around the scene of the blaze has resulted in its workers being unable to access the nearby Beauly Delivery Office.

Warning the public to expect disruption to local mail deliveries, a Royal Mail Customer Services spokesman said: “We’re very sorry to advise a serious incident occurred last night close to the Beauly Delivery Office.

“Due to the police cordon in place, our staff cannot gain access to the office, and it will remain closed today.

“As a result, we’re sorry that mail due for delivery in the IV4 and IV6 postcode areas today will be subject to delay.

“The Customer Service Point will also be closed during this period of disruption.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

"We’ll return to normal service as soon as we can.”
