WITNESSES are still being sought by police investigating two fatal crashes in Wester Ross and the Black Isle.

James Stead (50) died when his Triumph motorcycle and a Ford Fiesta collided on the A835 Ullapool road at the Braemore Junction on Thursday, July 19.

And Graham Short (73) died on Saturday when his grey Ford Focus was involved in a crash with a Mitsubishi Shogun towing a horse box on the A832 between Munlochy and Tore.

Police are keen to speak to anyone who witnessed either of the unconnected collisions.

The crash at the Braemore junction took place at around 2.35pm on July 19, while the collision on the A832 which killed Mr Short occurred at around 8.30am on July 21.

Anyone who witnessed the Braemore junction crash should call police on 101 quoting reference NE4748/18, while those with information relating to the other incident should quote reference NE4771/18.

Sergeant Chris Murray said: "Our inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances [of the Munlochy crash] and we are grateful to the members of the public who have assisted us already."

The ongoing appeals come amid a flurry of moving tributes to both men.

The region’s musicians were quick to praise Evanton man Mr Stead, a number of whom had played alongside the talented guitarist.

Posting on social media, Russell Turner said: "Terrible news. I played in several bands with him and you’d never meet a more genuine guy. My condolences to his family."

And Mr Short, who lived in Muir of Ord, was a popular figure among the golfing community, and is understood to have taken to the fairways on most days. Muir of Ord Golf Club captain Hamish Milne said he was "very outgoing and friendly" and was "well liked" by club members.
