AN opportunity to learn more about and try out Chinese painting, calligraphy, painting and paper cutting is being offered in the Highland capital this weekend.

The weekend workshop being hosted at the Multi Cultural Centre at Ardconnel Terrace in Inverness also includes the chance to make Beijing opera masks.

Workshops are being led by a team from the Scottish Confucius Institute for Business & Communication at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh.

Monica Lee-Macpherson of SHIMCA (Scottish Highlands and Islands and Moray Chinese Association) said the workshops are “a first of their kind” for the region and a great opportunity for people to try their hand at some of Chinese culture’s best-known artforms.

The group posted: “We have some spaces available but these are going fast.”

The workshops are open to all ages so parents can join in with their children.

They will be held on Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 at the Multi Cultural Centre at 1 Ardconnel Terrace, Inverness IV2 3AE.

Each workshop will last three hours. The planned timings are Saturday, 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm and Sunday 10am to 1pm and then 2.30pm to 5.30pm.

The costs are £5 for member adults. There’s no charge for association member children. The cost for non-member adults is £7 and £3 for non-member children.
