AN Easter Ross family affected by a tragic suicide will devote an annual daffodil day fundraiser on Saturday to a Highland mental health charity.

The annual daffodil tea at Foulis Castle near Evanton, home of Clan Munro, is a firm favourite which has benefited a number of charities.

This year is the first time that mental health has been the focus of the Munro family’s efforts, with personal experiences at the heart of their choice.

In 2004 Sarah (Alpha) Munro’s nephew Evelyn was diagnosed with schizophrenia and took his own life. In 2018 his brother, Orlando Von Einsiedel, an Oscar-winning film director, bravely made a film about his brothe entitled ‘Evelyn’ and partly set in the Highland to create awareness of the importance of communication and to de-stigmatise the taboos surrounding mental health.

Sarah said: “It has taken years for the family to talk openly about the tragedy. Organisations such as Birchwood Highland are a vital link to mental health and wellbeing and having the charity at Foulis is something positive that we can do for mental health.”

Màiri Maccdonald of Birchwood Highland said: “We welcome the Munro family’s efforts to raise awareness of and tackle the stigma that often surrounds mental health issues. Staff, service users and volunteers are so grateful to have been chosen as the charity to benefit from this year’s Daffodil Tea aand we’re really looking forward to a fun-filled day of daffodil picking and, of course, tea and lots of homebaking.”

Featuring stalls selling everything from local art and homewares to jewellery and clothing, the afternoon will also include live music from the Highland Swing Band and the Kiltearn Fiddlers. Refreshments and an abundance of home baking will be available on the day.

For children, there will be a number of activities including face painting and an exciting Easter egg hunt. Attendees are also encouraged to pick daffodils.

It runs from 1pm to 4pm and entry costs £3.

Ample parking is available on the day.
