RUMOURS claiming that a new signboard for an upcoming new branch of a popular retail chain have been confirmed as being a fake.

Excitement and likes were stirred on social media as a post on an Inverness community Facebook group showed a picture of a new poster allegedly at the former Debenhams site at Eastgate Shopping Centre.

The Inverness Courier went on site to check whether the rumours were true or not and found no evidence of the rumoured ad.

Eastgate Shopping Centre manager Jackie Cuddy, confirmed the picture was false and that this was potentially detrimental to their efforts to find a new business taking up the space at Eastgate.

"This type of fake news really doesn't do anything for us," she said.

"We are having talks in terms of replacing the former Debenhams store however, they are still at the early stages and this type of false information doesn't help."

In place of a Primark campaign, the poster showed a Scottish landscape and contacts for commercial property consultancy Orinsena and real estate services Savills.

The image was reposted on Facebook page What's Happening Inverness, gathering over one thousand likes and comments respectively.

The public was divided with many welcoming the new alleged location whereas others opposed to the move.

Several people on the post commented confirming that this was a modified and false image.
