A ROSS-SHIRE mart yesterday witnessed 'absolutely extraordinary trade' at what was described as 'another gargantuan sheep sale'.

The upbeat assessment followed a sale of 7349 sheep at Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd.

Lambs (5761) averaged £71.44 (last year £57.69) and sold to £124 gross for a pen of Texel crosses from Garnish Farm, Aviemore.

Ewes (853) sold to £152 gross for a pen of Suffolk crosses from Muckernich Farms, Tore.

Gimmers (140) sold to £162 gross for a Texel cross from Muckernich Farms.

Feeding Sheep (595) sold to £350 gross for a Texel Ram from 6/10 Airdens, Bonar Bridge.

The verdict: “Another gargantuan sheep sale took place at Dingwall this week. An absolutely extraordinary trade greeted the many vendors selling today, including a few new consigners who like the regular customers returned home overjoyed after a successful day’s trading.

"Store lambs met the dearest trade seen all season with many strong sorts at £90 plus and oceans of long long keep lambs late 60s-plus.”
