Invergordon RNLI hails remarkable 30-year service of Easter Ross coxswain

A ROSS-SHIRE lifeboat team has paid tribute to the "extraordinary service" of one of its crew on reaching a major milestone.

Invergordon RNLI hailed the achievement of station coxswain Andrew Murray on receiving his 30 years extraordinary service medal and certificate from the charity.

Mr Murray joined the Invergordon Lifeboat Station while the Waveney Class was the Station's Lifeboat, The White Rose of Yorkshire (44-012) which saw active service on station from 1988 to 1996, before being replaced by the at the time, the state of the art Trent Class Lifeboat ‘Douglas Aikman Smith’ (RNLI 14-08) which was on service until February 2021 when she joined the RNLI Scottish Relief Fleet to allow the new Shannon Class Lifeboat (RNLI 13-37) pickup active service.

Lifeboat Operations Manager Calum Slater said “It’s a tremendous achievement by Andrew to collect this 30 years service award and for someone who is dedicated to the cause of saving lives at sea and we are extremely grateful for his many years and his continued voluntary service to the RNLI. This is a remarkable occasion and to be part of this voluntary team, with such commitment and dedication, makes you very proud.

Many members of the public posted their own congratulations.

Julia Landale said: "Congratulations and thank you for your service. Stay safe in all you do."

Liz Chapman stated: "Congratulations Andrew, that is some achievement, you certainly deserve your medal and certificate. Take care and stay safe."
