A STRATHPEFFER student who has taken on additional responsibilities outwith her course of study has been recognised with an award.

Isla Campbell (21) found herself being called to the stage at the Council for Awards of Agricultural Societies (Caras) at the Dunblane Hydro recently.

The awards celebrate the achievements of people in land-based and aquaculture-related education.

In what proved to be a memorable evening for Miss Campbell, who is doing a BSc in Forest Management with Arboriculture and Urban Forestry through The Scottish School of Forestry at Inverness College UHI, she was also a runner-up in the Higher Education category at the event run by Lantra Scotland, the skills group for the land and aquaculture sector.

She was credited with consistently applying herself academically while taking on additional responsibilities more widely.

She said: “I’m really pleased to win a Caras award and to be runner-up in the Higher Education category. Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way, including my tutors at the Scottish School of Forestry and Inverness College UHI.”

Liz Barron-Majerik, director of Lantra Scotland, said the awards are key to recognising and celebrating the achievements of trainees within Scotland’s rural sector, as well as encouraging employers to invest in the next generation of talent.

She said they also help highlight “the incredible individuals” who work within the sector.
