It is not too late to be in with a chance of becoming one of the winners at the second Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards.

The entry deadline for the awards, which will take place online Thursday, February 25, has been extended by an extra week.

Potential winners now have until this weekend to put their names forward to be considered for one of the eight open categories at this year's event.

Categories include best onshore and best offshore renewable energy project, best community energy project, best public sector collaboration, best smart energy or carbon reduction project, best supply chain or service company and best marine operator.

There will also be an award for most promising individual.

A ninth award, for outstanding achievement in the renewable energy sector in the Highlands and Islands, will be chosen by the judges and announced on the evening.

The first Highlands and Islands Renewable Energy Awards took place at the Kingsmills Hotel in October 2019 in front of more than 200 guests representing a cross-section of the industry's most influential figures.

Covid-19 restrictions may have forced the event online, but organisers hope that the virtual nature of the awards this year will allow even more people to join host Nicky Marr, regardless of distance, to watch the winners.

The awards will follow on from the 11th edition of the Scottish Highland and Islands Renewable Energy Conference (SHREC), organised by leading law firm Harper Macleod LLP, which will also be held virtually, that afternoon.

Entries can be made up until Saturday, January 23, with a final deadline of midnight.
