A lifeboat crew came to the rescue after a vessel suffered engine failure in force four winds in the Inner Moray Firth.

The RNLI’s Kessock lifeboat launched at 8.21pm after the coastguard requested assistance for the 27ft vessel near Avoch.

After putting a crew member aboard to assess the situation, the RNLI successfully restarted the engine.

However it was still struggling amid the force four winds and the RNLI took the boat under tow as it passed the Kessock Bridge and into safety in Inverness Marina.

A spokesperson for the Kessock crew said: “We quickly launched with a crew of 4 and made way to the stricken vessel.

“It was decided to put a crew member on board to assess the situation. Our crew managed to get the engine running and we accompanied the vessel on its journey to Inverness Marina.

“As the engine was struggling in the force four winds, the helm took the decision that it would be safer to tow the vessel for part of the journey which would take it under the Kessock Bridge as this is the last place we would want it to lose power.

”We safely guided her into the marina where we were met by HM Coastguard teams.”
