ELEVEN new Covid-19 cases have been detected in the NHS Highland area.

The region's cumulative number of coronavirus cases rose to 994 when the latest update was published.

It came as Scotland reported a further 1122 positive tests for the virus in the past 24 hours.

The country's hospitals continue to report an increase in the number of coronavirus patients, with some 1052 people receiving treatment for Covid-19 last night. That figure is up from 1016 the day before.

There was also an increase in the number of intensive care patients, which rose four to 90.

And, sadly, one further person was reported to have died after earlier testing positive.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no fresh cases reported overnight in NHS Eileanan Siar, NHS Shetland or NHS Orkney.

NHS Grampian detected a further 32 infections, for a running tally of 3218.

And NHS Tayside reported 60 new positive tests – taking its cumulative total to 3775.

Scotland has now had 57,874 positive tests for Covid-19 since the global pandemic first began.
