ANOTHER 83 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed across the NHS Highland health board area.

The region’s cumulative number of known cases since the beginning of the pandemic rose from 7108 to 7191 overnight.

Six people are now being treated for the virus in NHS Highland hospitals. This was up one from Monday, and came as NHS Highland warned that Raigmore Hospital had been placed on “code black” status after the resurgent virus – coupled with the impact of self-isolation requirements on staff – had seen it hit its capacity and cancel all “non-urgent” surgeries.

There were 2363 new positive tests for Covid-19 across Scotland in the past 24 hours – or 10.2 per cent of all those people tested during that window.

Scottish hospitals were treating 346 people for the virus last night – up eight from yesterday.

Of those, 32 were in intensive care. This was up by two.

Sadly six further people have passed away having tested positive for the virus in the previous 28 days.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the north of Scotland, there were no new cases overnight in either NHS Shetland or NHS Eileanan Siar, but NHS Orkney registered two further positive tests, for a running total of 102.

NHS Grampian’s cumulative total rose by 150, to 19,423.

And there were a further 249 new cases in NHS Tayside – taking its tally to 22,534.

There have now been 299,848 known cases of the virus in Scotland since the pandemic began.

Almost 3.88 million Scots have now received their first vaccination injection, while more than 2.79 million have had their second jag.
