It has been revealed that Edinburgh Woollen Mill in Dingwall will cease trading at the end of the day in what is a major blow to Dingwall's already fragile High Street.

The revelation emerged from local councillor Graham Mackenzie, who was posting on social media.

He said: "Sadly Dingwall’s Edinburgh Woollen Mill store will cease trading at close of business today. This is a blow for our High Street."

The Covid pandemic has had a devastating blow on traders the length of the UK with the furlough scheme, due to end later this month, seen as a lifeline.

Just yesterday, Edinburgh Woollen Mill was given more time to find buyers or new investors as an alternative to going into administration.

The group, controlled by tycoon Philip Day, had already filed a notice of intent to appoint administrators, giving it protection from any legal action by its creditors.

That notice was extended for two weeks on Friday.

Staff were told that there were a number of parties interested in investing or buying parts of the business but warned that the process “a significant number of store closures.”
