AN Easter Ross school was "acting in good faith" in seeking to alert pupils who may have been in contact with a student affected by coronavirus.

That's the view of Highland Council following an online spat in the wake of news that a pupil at Dornoch Academy had tested positive for Covid-19.

Tain Royal Academy posted on Sunday how some of their students were "in the company of" the Dornoch Academy pupil who contracted Covid-19 but later edited and then deleted the post.

Reacting to criticism from some parents over the issue, a Highland Council spokesperson said: “The school was acting in good faith in seeking to alert pupils who may have been in contact with the Dornoch pupil.

"However, further investigations subsequently did not identify any pupils from Tain as close contacts.”

Confirmation of a case at Dornoch followed an earlier positive case involving a pupil at Gairloch High School in Wester Ross.

Highland Council says it is working closely with NHS Highland's Health Protection Team to manage this situation at both schools.

Contact tracing has been carried out with a number of close contacts asked to self-isolate.
