Easter Ross community invited to Midfearn Distillery consultation event

Local people will have the opportunity to comment on plans for the proposed Midfearn Distillery at a face-to-face consultation event being held next week.
The Midfearn Distillery Company Limited has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Highland Council for the creation of a new malt whisky distillery on a site at Easter Fearn, south of the Dornoch Firth. The proposed distillery would be in a location where whisky was first distilled more than 200 years ago.
The first of two consultation events, where local people will also have the opportunity to talk to the project team, will be held at Edderton Community Hall, Station Road, Tain, on Wednesday, December 1, from 3pm till 7pm. Information about the event has been posted on the midfearndistillery.co.uk website and further details of the proposals themselves will be available on the website from December 1.
Anyone unable to attend in person can submit comments by sending an email entitled “Midfearn” to consultation@scotthobbsplanning.com.
Comments should be received by Sunday, December 19.
Any responses from local people will then be considered by the project team ahead of a second, online consultation on Thursday, January 20, 202. It is expected that a full planning application for the distillery will then be submitted to Highland Council.
Charlie Brooke, custodian of the 13,000-acre Midfearn Estate, and on whose land at Easter Fearn the distillery would be built, said: “We want this distillery to become part of the community and I am determined that we create one that everyone will be proud of, so listening to the ideas and aspirations of our local friends and neighbours is a vital part of our planning process.
“We have brought together an expert team to make this dream a reality and I hope that as many people from the local area as possible will join us to come and see for themselves what we want to achieve.”
