An Invergordon princess is cutting off her locks to support children coping with cancer.

Four-year-old Freya Bertram, who attends South Lodge Nursery, was so determined to be one the first to have her hair cut short post lockdown, her mum Erin (22) decided to support her in raising money for the Little Princess Trust.

The Little Princess Trust is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Mum Erin Bertram, who works at Ken's Garage and as a housekeeper, said: "Freya has beautiful long hair with wonderful curly locks. I love it.

"Over the lockdown she has been determined that she wants to get her hair cut short. Obviously I don't want her to have her hair cut short, but she is so determined, that instead of getting upset about it, we've decided to make it a positive and do something for others with it.

"Freya is a lovely wee girl and is always thinking of others so she wanted to make sure someone else would enjoy her hair.

"We plan to donate 25-30cms of hair to the trust.

"When we approached the Little Princess Trust they said they would also appreciate funds to help make Freya's hair into a wig free of charge for another child who is suffering from hair loss, due to cancer treatments.

"We have been overwhelmed by the response to a fundraiser that we have set up. Over 48 hours we raised more than two times what we had hoped to raise. Alongside money raised on the funding page we have lots of family and friends who have given donations to us to support Freya's fundraising."

She continued: "I cannot believe how many people have supported Freya and I want to say 'thank you' to every single person who has supported Freya.

"While the date of the haircut is still to be confirmed it is really giving us something to look forward to."
