Fiscal depute Emily Hood told Sheriff Gary Aitken: "After forensic examination, 223 inaccessible images were found.

"They were 27 in Category A (the most graphic involving sexual activity), nine in category B and 187 in category C.

"The images in Category A related to young females aged between five and 12 and the majority in category C involved females aged between 10 and 15 posing nude in provocative poses."

Sentence was deferred until August 5 for a background report and Cowan was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.

Sheriff Aitken told him: "Given your record, the previous conviction and the disposal, I suspect you have been through this process before, so we may have to try something else."
