A NINE-year-old Easter Ross lad chose Friday the 13th to embark on an impressive 5k a day challenge to help others.

Riley Leat from Invergordon plans to continue his daily effort up until December 11 to benefit the MFR Mission Christmas campaign.

The Cash for Kids initiative responds to figures showing that one in four children will be living in poverty this Christmas.

The fundraiser helps get gifts to people who would otherwise miss out.

Invergordon Development Trust said: "Amazing effort for charity and he’s only nine! Good luck Riley!"

David Hayes-Macleod, head teacher of South Lodge Primary, said: "This is an amazing idea from an extremely caring young man. Please pop onto the page to support Riley and help raise money for an extremely worthy cause. Riley –South Lodge is very proud of you!"

Riley can be sponsored here.
