A LIFE-saving local service has been gifted a new piece of essential kit from an annual charity fundraising event in Wester Ross last year.

Established in 1986, the Great Wilderness Challenge (GWC) is an annual fundraising event where participants walk or run up to 25 miles through rugged Wester Ross terrain. The money raised goes to multiple local charities, including Dundonnell Mountain Rescue Team (DMRT).

DMRT leader Iain Nesbitt said: “We're very proud to have been associated with the GWC since its inception in 1986, assisting with the provision of a radio safety network as well as with first aid.

“The area covered by our team extends from north of Ullapool to Invermoriston and 4x4 vehicles are frequently used to transport team members and equipment to areas which can be well away from public roads. In addition they are regularly used in the evacuation of casualties from such locations. This new vehicle will be based at Ullapool where it replaces an ageing Land Rover.”
