Residents are concerned that beaches such as Nairn will be busier when sunnier weather hits.

Police have reminded the public that driving to a beach would be considered a breach of social distancing rules.

The warning was issued as forecasters at the Met Office predicted sunshine over the weekend in parts of the Highlands.

It has raised fears that locations such as Rosemarkie beach, the Secret Beach near Fort George and Nairn beach front will prove too tempting for many people to resist.

But police have said they are working with partners in the local authority, and will be undertaking patrols in the area.

Nairn resident Brian Whyte said: "I live near the beach and there has been a steady flow of traffic to the beach from people.

"People just need to take the advice and stay home. We don't want the virus spread in Nairn."
