NC500 beauty spot of Struie Hill urges visitors to ‘please do not use as toilet’
An NC500 beauty spot in Easter Ross has been forced to install a new sign urging people to “not use this areas as a toilet”.
Struie Hill, a prominent feature in the landscape around the Dornoch Firth, shows stunning views over the firth at a 285m ascent.

However, like a number of Highland beauty spots, Struie Hill has unfortunately become a victim of being used as an outdoor toilet.
The sign installed by the Highland Council and their Ranger Service reads: “Please do not use this area as a toilet. The nearest public toilets are in Alness (south) or in Argay (north). If you can’t make it, please ‘Bag and Bin’ all waste.”
The sign also includes a QR code for a map to all Highland Council public toilets and those under a comfort scheme.

A photograph of the sign was publicly shared to Facebook, and quickly gained an appalled response from locals.
Muriel Eaton said: “You know the 10 years of educating the tourists has failed when you have to put up signs like this.”
Dorothy Smith commented: “Sad it has come to this. I feel sorry for the properly nice tourists that come to enjoy the beautiful views.”
Greg Forbes stated: “It's a sad but necessary state that this sign is required. I wonder if the people who do this think it's okay to s*** in their own neighbourhood, local laybys and parks? I think not. Somehow they reserve this for their holidays... makes no sense to me from basic human values.”
James Reid said: “Admire the view but do not try to breathe in the fresh air, thanks to what’s left behind by the ignorant and selfish who use this beauty spot as a toilet.”
