THE discovery of rubbish fly-tipped into a Ross-shire burn has triggered disgust in the local community.

Tyres and discarded white goods were amongst the items dumped at the at bottom of Stoney Brae in the Heights of Fodderty.

One big-hearted local resident spent time fishing the items from the burn and reported the issue to Highland Council.

It's understood that an uplift has been arranged.

The incident has sparked debate on Facebook with some users suggesting it be shared widely in a bid to track the culprit.

An apparent increase in incidents of fly-tipping during the coronavirus lockdown was blamed by some on the lack of access to Highland Council recycling centres, closed at that time to meet Covid-19 guidelines.

But that has been rejected as an excuse for laziness by others keen to protect the countryside and who point out that recycling centres are now widely available.

One took to Facebook to state: "It's been happening longer than lockdown, just people who are too lazy and inconsiderate to dispense with their rubbish correctly.Always done under cover of darkness."
