A DRIVE to help ensure children in challenging circumstances taste the joy of Christmas this year has been launched by a Dingwall superstore.

Tesco Dingwall has launched its Christmas Toy Appeal with donations set to be handed over to the Highland Council Homeless Team in in the town.

Tesco Dingwall community champion Michelle Mackay explained: “They will provide us with an anonymous list of gender and age of children who are in homeless accommodation this Christmas.

“The team in Dingwall have done this for the last three years and lots of gifts have been donated so the children don't go without and help to relieve the pressure on parents.

“We are also delighted to support The Archie Foundation Highland with our Toy Appeal, where presents will be distributed to children in the Children's Ward at Raigmore Hospital over Christmas.”

She went on: “The generosity of our customers and colleagues in the past three years since I've been community champion has been extraordinary and we have seen no less than four cages full of toys donated.

“In the past, we have provided any left over from our main groups to local schools as they have knowledge of families that may be struggling.

“I am so fortunate to be in a position to facilitate this each year and help to ensure all donations are kept as local as possible.”
