A ROSS-SHIRE debate next week on the upcoming independence referendum will be followed by a secret ballot.

The gauge of local public feeling over what has been described as Scotland’s biggest decision in 300 years will follow the Dingwall debate next Monday (June 9).

Speaking in favour of a Yes vote at the September 18 referendum will be SNP MSP Dave Thompson, whose Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch constituency takes in Dingwall and the Black Isle.

Putting the case for retaining the Union and voting against Scottish independence will be Garry Coutts, who is chairman of NHS Highland and has also served as an elected councillor in Edinburgh and the Highlands.

The meeting, set to take place at the Baptist Church in the town’s Tulloch Street at 7pm on Monday will be chaired by Independent Dingwall and Seaforth councillor, Alister MacKinnon.

Each speaker will present a 10-minute speech and then the floor will be open to questions.

Members of the public will have the opportunity to vote in secret at the end.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting.
