A musician from Dingwall who has worked with some of the biggest names in Scottish music is returning to the Highlands this month to launch a hotly anticipated second album.

Innes White, guitarist of Staran, was born in Dingwall and is a highly sought-after multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, with credits on over 40 albums and extensive touring experience across the UK and internationally.

The former Dingwall Primary and Academy pupil attended Plockton’s National Centre for Excellence in Traditional Music. Currently based in Glasgow, he will be playing across the Highlands with Staran as part of a special three-date album launch tour for Gold from Ruins.

Taking their name from the Gaelic word for “path” or “stepping stones,” Staran is a meeting of musical minds featuring Innes White (guitar), Kim Carnie of Mànran (vocals), John Lowrie (piano, percussion), James Lindsay of Breabach (bass) and Jack Smedley of RURA (fiddle).

Gold from Ruins celebrates Scotland’s deep-rooted traditions while pushing musical boundaries with fresh, contemporary sounds. Expect influences of jazz and electronica, woven seamlessly with Gaelic song and storytelling.

Innes said: “The album title comes from the idea that the most beautiful of new musical journeys can develop from ancient relics of songs, stories and folklore.

“The album is made of almost entirely original compositions, and although rooted in Scottish traditional music, we definitely draw inspiration from other genres such as jazz, minimalism and experimental electronica.”

They play Eden Court Theatre on October 31. Gold from Ruins will be officially released on October 24 and is available to pre-order now on CD, vinyl and digital platforms, via www.staran.com. Tickets for the concerts can be purchased via https://www.staranmusic.com/live-dates.
