Dingwall Accordion and Fiddle Club stage final meeting of 2024
YOUTH and experienced blended to great effect at the final meeting of Dingwall Accordion and Fiddle Club in 2024.
Compere Ian Simpson welcomed audience and players to the Legion Club on a cold, wet December evening.
Heather Lyon, playing her fiddle, was first on stage with a foot-tapping set of marches, accompanied by Monica Maclean (accordion), Maggie Jamieson (drums) and Christine Matheson (piano). Then it was the turn of the youngest player, 11-year-old Donald Barclay. The audience enjoyed confident playing on his three-row button accordion.

Monica, a regular supporter of the club, was next on the hot seat and played a fine set of marches, followed by a lovely selection of waltzes. The final local player of the first half was another club favourite, Cammie MacLean.
He was accompanied by his Dad, Martin on drums and Christine on keyboard. A club spokeswoman said: “We are always pleased to see Cammie coming in the door!”
Guests for the evening, the Colin Donaldson Band, started with a good going set of jigs.
This was to be followed by a variety of tunes including waltzes, marches and two excellent French-style musettes from the 1960s!
Colin introduced band members, his wife Heather (drums), talented son Fraser (keyboard) and Colin Garvin, who had travelled from the south to play second accordion. Colin also accompanied Fraser on keyboard when he played two first class sets on his accordion.
After the interval, the InverRoss Band, with Donna Dingwall leading on accordion, played some great sets of tunes. On stage with Donna were Audrey MacDonald (fiddle), Christine Matheson (accordion), Mike Chisholm (drums) and guest pianist, Fraser Donaldson.
For the second half, the Colin Donaldson Band played another fine selection of well-played music. A highlight was from Fraser on piano with a set of jazz music. He gave an outstanding performance with Dad, Colin, accompanying on accordion.
Ian Simpson thanked the band , local players and the attentive audience who regularly come to club nights.
The club passed on good wishes for Christmas and teed up the next evening on January 8 with guests the James Corbett Trio.
