'Mammoth day of selling' at Dingwall mart as sheep sale witnesses solid trade 'from dawn until dusk'

IN what was described as "a mammoth day of selling" at Dingwall mart, the UK's largest one-day sheep sale witnessed buoyant trade all day.
Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd yesterday sold 14,650 store lambs at their annual district sale to average £67.52 (+£7.47 on the year).
Cheviot wedder lambs (8600) averaged £64.15 (+£5.11) and sold to £128 gross from 1 Dounie, Edderton.
Cheviot ewe lambs (1852) averaged £77.77 (+£14.77) and sold to £160 gross from 185 Migdale, Bonar Bridge.
Texel cross lambs (1712) averaged £71.82 (-£7.14) and sold to £90 gross from Parkview, Auckengill.
Other breeds (2486) averaged £69.81 (+£11.20) and sold to £106.00 gross for Beltex crosses from Creagard, Struanmore.
The verdict from the mart: “A mammoth day of selling was witnessed within Dingwall mart as the UK’s largest one day sheep sale took place. A packed ringside of buyers were present and the trade was steady and buoyant from dawn until dusk. Top draw
wedder lambs met a firm enquiry and were regularly in the mid to late 70s bracket.
"Ewe lambs with great skins, silky hair and oozing with character met a fierce enquiry with many purchasers venturing home short of numbers. Continental lambs also met a brisk trade with pen after pen realising well into the £80 for shapey sorts.”
