Weaned calves, store and breeding cattle sale prices from Dingwall Mart today

DINGWALL and Highland Marts today sold 427 weaned calves, store and 51 adult head of breeding cattle, including 36 Highland and Highland crosses.

Bullocks (185) averaged 205.5p per kg and sold to 247.1p per kg for a 255kg Limousin cross from Blackwood, Lochcarron and £1,190 gross for a 565kg Aberdeen Angus cross from Lower Gartally Farm, Drumnadrochit.

Heifers (137) averaged 206.4p per kg and sold to 301.9p per kg for a 265kg Blue Grey from Scroggie Farm, Dingwall and £1,090 gross for a Whitebred Shorthorn from Cawdor Estates, Nairn.

Young Bulls (18) sold to 229.0p per kg for a 310kg Simmental cross from Dunachton Farm, Kincraig and £890 gross for an Aberdeen Angus from Spittal Shore, Strathpeffer.

Highland and Highland cross bullocks (28) sold to 193.4p per kg for a 256kg bullock from Strathvaich Estate and £860 gross for a 625kg bullock from Craig Dhu and Biallid Farm, Laggan.

Highland and Highland cross heifers (8) sold to 197.2 per kg for a 355kg heifer from Craig Dhu and Biallid Farm and £720 gross for a 375kg bullock also from Craig Dhu and Biallid Farm.

In calf cow (23) sold to £1,750 gross for a Highland cross from 1 Old Corry, Broadford.

In calf heifer (2) sold to £1,400 gross for a Simmental cross from Upper Duntulm, Kilmuir.

Cow with male calf at foot (9) sold to £1,300 from Kerrysdale Farm, Gairloch.

Cow with heifer calf at foot (7) sold to £1,400 from Kerrysdale Farm, Gairloch.

Heifer with male calf at foot (1) sold to £1,000 from 2 Gowanlea, Castletown.

Heifer with heifer calf at foot (3) sold to £1,350 from Kerrysdale Farm, Gairloch.

Bulls (6) sold to £1,050 from Greenfield, Invergarry.

The mart verdict: “The store cattle offering at Dingwall today was dominated by native bred and hill bred calves. Quality growth cattle were scarce and maintained recent trends. Breeding cattle were dearer on the week with some buyers gone

away empty handed.”

OTM prime and feeding cattle (116) sold to 178.5p per kg for a 605g Limousin cross from Balranald Estates and

£1,300 gross for a 955kg Shorthorn from Cloverlea, Portmahomack.

OTM bulls (5) sold to 108.4p per kg and £900 gross for a 830kg Beef Shorthorn from Todholes, Thurso.

OTM Bullocks (2) sold to 169.5p per kg for a 590kg Aberdeen Angus from Broomhill, Fortrose and £1,140 gross a Gasconne from Quarryhead Farm, Rosehearty.

The verdict: “A large offering of mainly leaner feeding cows sold to the biggest ringside of buyers so far this season. Quality considered cows were dearer on the week. Good young fleshy cows were much sought after and scare of requirements.”
