A Dingwall man is set to embark on an epic march through France and northern Spain in support of fundraising efforts to provide St Clement’s special school with new playground equipment.

David Campbell will set off later today but before he departed he paid a visit to the kids at the school for a very warm send off before he attempts ‘the Camino’ or the Way of St James.

The gruelling but spectacular hike will see Mr Campbell leave for London today, take a flight to Biarritz on Saturday morning and then onward to start the gruelling hike from St Jean Pied de Port on Monday.

Mr Campbell aims to finish on October 16 at the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral in Galicia in northern Spain.

He said: “I have to say it was such a privilege and an emotional honour to meet them. I was delighted with the way they greeted me.

“I leave Inverness on Friday to fly to Gatwick, then a 6am flight to Biarritz. I am travelling on Sunday to St Jean Pied de Port for the beginning of the walk on Monday.

“I can be followed by logging on to Polarsteps David Campbell St Clements sponsorship.”

Avril Robertson from the St Clement’s Parent Council and everyone at the school is grateful not just for Mr Campbell’s efforts but also the whole community who have supported the fundraising efforts.

On top of that, there will also be a fundraising effort at Dingwall’s Feil Maree (street fair) on Saturday and on Friday, September 13 a Night with Joe Foy in the Legion in Dingwall with music and karaoke where a quad bike will be raffled off.

“Another Dingwallian visited St. Clement’s School to meet the kids before his amazing adventure begins,” she said. “David Campbell is walking the Camino Way and collecting sponsorship for the school.

“All of us at St. Clement’s School are so thankful and wish David the best of luck. We are absolutely blown away by the generosity and support of our local community and can’t thank them enough.

“Our fundraising total to date is £50,000 and we couldn’t have achieved this without them. All of the money raised is for a playground upgrade which will enhance the lives of so many.”
